Behind The Borgia Portrait
Take a video tour behind the scenes of The Borgia Portrait…. warning, spoilers ahead!
The Venice of The Garden of Angels
Back in Venice for a while I decided to revisit the locations of The Garden of Angels and gather my thoughts about a book that took me three years to write, and took me to corners of the city I never knew existed.
Ask five questions… episode one
Our first ask five questions is out… with Val de Furrentes talking about The Borgia Portrait.
Mr. Newhouse’s Proposition
A free short story set in Venice. A solitary Englishwoman has arrived in for New Year’s Eve, only to be entranced by a mysterious stranger.
Ever wanted to interview an author?
Readers like to ask authors questions. Authors like to answer them. But often it’s not easy. A quick to and fro on Twitter (no I won’t call it X). Or that brief session at the end of a festival event where you’re praying someone won’t stand up and say, ‘More a statement than a question’.
So here’s the idea. You think of five questions you’d like to ask me. Each month I pick one of you to ask them in person, online, on a video chat between the two us.
A murderous walk in Venice
I look at some of the places behind the murder of Lorenzino de Medici in 1548 which sparks the story and walk the way the doomed man did the night his assassins finally caught up with him at the Ponte San Tomà.

New website, new newsletter
Yes, it looks different round here. I’ve switched over to Squarespace. There are still some tweaks going on but I hope everything is pretty clear here and it’s easy to find what you want. But some changes… and a plea for help.
Bookstore event Vienna, February 27
I’ll be in Vienna later this month, launching Die Medici Morde for those fine people at Folio. You can catch me at the Thalia store at Landstraßer Hauptstraße 2a/2b, 1030 Wien on February 27, starting at 7pm, entry free.
Signing, Venice Studium
Folio will be publishing the German translation of The Medici Murders next February... and if you happen to be in Venice around that time feel free to get a signed copy.
I'll be at the great Studium Bookstore behind the Doge's Palace from 5.30 on Thursday February 22nd. It's an informal event. No need to book, no fee. Just me and some books ready to chat and sign.
